Fresno State, Nevada accept invitations to Mountain West

NCAA Football Betting Lines

08/18/2010 - Fresno, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Fresno State and the University of Nevada accepted invitations to join the Mountain West Conference late Wednesday night.

The two schools received invites earlier Wednesday, the same day it was reported Brigham Young University has decided to leave the MWC and become an independent in football while re-joining the Western Athletic Conference in all non-football sports beginning in the fall of 2011.

"The addition of Fresno State and Nevada further enhances the Mountain West Conference," said MWC commissioner Craig Thompson. "Our board of directors has continued to be diligent and aggressive in executing our strategy for positioning the MWC in the national landscape. We are excited to welcome these two institutions into the Mountain West. Both fit geographically and create new conference rivalries."

Fresno State had competed in the WAC since 1992 and Nevada since 2000. It has not been determined if the two schools will begin competing in the MWC in 2011 or 2012.

"This is an exciting day for Fresno State and for Bulldog football," head football coach Pat Hill said. "The new look of the Mountain West is a very good football conference and will have the opportunity to earn an automatic spot in the BCS. We are looking forward to it."

If BYU does, in fact, leave the MWC, it will be left with 10 teams, including Boise State, which announced it was leaving the WAC earlier this year to join the ranks. Utah is leaving the conference for what will be called the Pac-12.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2008 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2008 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
